Now, your DMX-40 or MMX will run essentially forever, and the screen will turn on for any screen activity. This includes volume changes (which change the volume setting on the screen), decoder output, the ESC key, etc. Note that the ESC key will also throw you into CTX mode, so a double ESC is required, but that also clears the current transmit speed setting. Our suggestion? Well, I have been looking under the wrong rock. The bug was inserted unintentionally way back when the project just began, in 2017, in the graphics firmware. A command to sleep after 10 minutes. We never sent a wakeup command, because we were just turning on and off the backlight in the DMX firmware. That single line of code hid in the boot screen code where I would never look. Until now. Use static precautions. Don't touch the PCB, only hold by the edges. Disconnect all wires connected to the transceiver.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e2. Using a Philips screwdriver, remove the two screws from the rear panel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e3. Using a Philips screwdriver, remove the four screws at the corners of the top panel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e4. Carefully remove the electronics by tilting up on the right side, and then upwards.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e5. Turn over, and locate the two power switch wires. Unplug the wires from the connector on the transceiver PCB.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e6. Locate four white nylon stand-offs, or, on older DMX-40's, hex nuts, holding the transceiver PCB in place.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e7. Using a nut driver, carefully remove the four stand-offs or hex nuts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e8. Locate the 10-pin connector at the rear left of the transceiver PCB that is connecting it to the front panel PCB.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e9. Pull the transceiver PCB straight up carefully to disengage from the mounting posts and the connector. Rocking the PCB slightly will ensure connector separation without bending the pins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e10. Set the transceiver PCB into the bottom of the case, and cover with the lid. This is a good way to protect it while you wait for the replacement with updated software. The front panel, with power switch and LCD panel still attached, is what you are shipping to the factory for the software update.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e11. Place in an anti-static bag, wrap in at least one layer of bubblewrap, and put into a strong small box for shipping. A 4\" x 6\" x 2\" box is perfect, as long as it is made of strong cardboard, not thin cardboard. This also gives you space for the label on top, and customs forms on the bottom of the box. We did not track down the noise issue coming from the power supply until summer of 2025, and we requested and paid for an engineering effort by the supplier to make the noise level significantly lower. Their 4th revision design did it, and there is virtually no noise being sensed by the receiver with the new supply,\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can see in the scope images below the original noise at 200 mv\/div and the final noise at 100 mv\/div. - twice the scope gain. Impressive, and confirmed by lack of noise in Nomad.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eTo replace your power supply, follow these instructions:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eRemove all screws from the rear panel, and tilt in down behind the Nomad, being careful not to stress the power switch wires. This enables you to see the power supply connector and piston,\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eRemove the 5 screws from the top panel. This exposes the power supply.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eRemove the batteries, counter-clockwise, from front left.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eRemove the four screws - two on each end, plus the 5th one on the center.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCarefully lift the power supply straight up until the pins have cleared the connector on the main PCB.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCheck the two power switch wires to make sure they are correctly seated in the pins on the main PCB.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCarefully lower the new, low noise power supply, watching the pins from the rear, and making sure to line up the pins and correctly insert pins into the connector correctly.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eReplace the center screw and tighten. Do not over tighten,\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eReplace the left and right screws. Do not over tighten.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eMake sure the PCB is well seated and held in place. If it is still loose, gently increase tension on the screwdriver to ensure a tight fit,\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eInsert the batteries, in the same order you removed them.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eTurn on the Nomad to ensure everything is working correctly.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eReplace the rear panel and all of its screws.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eReplace the top panel, center screw first. two rear screws next, then the front screws You may need to press the cabinet sides in to line up with the screw holes. Do not over tighten, but ensure a solid fit.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eDone. Success!
