  • Start Reading Immediately:

    There is no long sampling period and no receive-speed control to adjust. Tune to a signal and the Relativistic Decoder begins interpreting it immediately. It adapts dynamically as the operator changes speed or rhythm, making it especially useful when scanning a band, entering a contest exchange, or moving quickly between stations.

  • Decode Real Operators, Not Just Perfect Code:

    Human-sent Morse is rarely machine-perfect. Cypher is designed to understand straight keys, bugs, paddles, inconsistent timing, compressed spacing, changing speed, Farnsworth operation, and difficult or “sloppy” fists. Instead of forcing every mark and space into a rigid timing template, it evaluates the relationships between them in context—much as an experienced operator does.

Works well with a little time and effort setting it up.

I was skeptical until I sat down and went through the manual, watched a couple videos and got the device setup working. I'm no longer a skeptic. Although it's not 100%, it's better than my ear and it works quite well. Earlier today, I had to call and ask about an issue that I was having and it turned out, it was self inflicted and the device was working exactly as it was supposed to. Thank you for taking the call and getting me sorted out.

DitStorm Cypher Review

My review of the DitStorm Cypher (DSC) comes with a background of comparing a number of Morse decoders previously and finding that MRP, although not free, seemed to be the state of the art at the time. I was eager to determine whether DSC with its hardware and distributing computing approach was better than MRP. DSC has a great interface and offers AI boost that I found needs more work at present. On machine-generated code and good signals like from ARRL, both apps seem equivalent to me. On ham generated code, MRP seems slightly better at decoding character accuracy. MRP is better at word spacing. DSC claims to be better with weak signals, but I was not technically able to verify this. DSC is more feature rich with AI boost, mail and macros. I wish that DSC developers would expend more effort with the basics such as character recognition and particularly, accurate word spacing. I want to like DSC and look forward to software upgrades.

Great piece however I have to “fiddle” with it more than I thought I would to copy CW.

Randall, sorry we didn't give you a completely automatic system. On the other hand, we thought that 'operators' wanted to 'operate' and thus made it more powerful, but operating = fiddling. Maybe we can make an 'automatic' mode that eliminates all adjustments and is just a plain old decoder... Might be a good optional mode, don't you think?

It simply does not work

It simply does not work. It does not adjust for volume levels, does not handle any noise, does not decode with any accuracy, jumps all over with confidence levels, and is worse than the software tools I have used in the past.

Richard, we are sorry that you have had difficulty learning the ropes on Cypher. As you can see with so many other reviews, there must be something you are missing. It certainly does work, and we have well over 500 customers to date to prove it. Please update to the latest release, now 3.1 and soon 3.2, and download the manual (available in SETTINGS). Spend some time reading and absorbing the manual. Find out what you missed that others have found.

CYHER: More than just a CW decoder

I've been using the CYPHER for a few days now, and the most important thing to understand from the start is that it's much more than just a decoder! You have to work with it like a radio or digital software, and that's what makes it different from, for example, the old MMX. Of course, there are still many small enhancements that need to be made, but that won't be a problem for Bob and Eric. So, I'm looking forward to many good CW QSOs that I can make with the CYPHER, and hopefully to many new and returning users using the Turbo Mode in CYPHER!

Daniel, I am not sure who 'Bob' is, probably you mean Joe Bobier. Yes, it will be much fun when Cypher users use the recommended Cypher frequencies, and get to go into Cypher mode, using fast speeds, upper and lower case, etc. That will happen, over time. Thanks for your great comments!
